All Students:
Please have your child continue to read good fit books out loud to an adult for 15 minutes.  Please do this at least 5 nights. Sign off in home folder.

1st Grade Language Arts- Word work on the sounds of short and long e with the spelling of ee and ea.  The students will build words dictated by an adult using letters.  Next the students will sort the word cards by the sounds of e they hear in the word.  Finally the students will write the words dictated by an adult on a piece of paper, making sure to sort the words by the sounds.

Here is a link to alphabet and bonus letter cutouts to
use with the dictation activities.  These activities are an
essential part of your child's homework.  They build
your child's phonemic awareness.  Please make sure
that you are completing this portion of the homework
          with your child.

Second Grade Math ~  Math Homework Sent home
Students brought home a doubles plus 1 math fact sheet that was started in class.  For homework this sheet needs to be completed on both sides.

Another activity sent home was an exercise in open number line 2-digit addition problems.   This sheet works on adding 2-digit numbers using an open number line as a tool.  The focus of this paper is for the students to use the "Compensation" strategy to use numbers that are easy to add together.  Please see examples on the homework for an explanation of this strategy

1st Grade Language Arts- Unit 9 week 2 word work homework sent home this week.
Please make sure your child puts their name on their homework.  Last week 6/13 did not have their name on the paper.

Click here for Unit 9 Week 2 Answer Key.

Please note that on the dictation sentence the answer key does not show the words pass, small, block and Beth being underlined.  On your child's page these words should be underlined to show the words are "closed syllables".

Second Grade Math ~  Math Homework Sent home

Some students brought home a doubles math fact sheet that was started in class.  For homework this sheet needs to be completed on both sides.  These math sheets are to help with math fact fluency.  Learning to fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies is an important goal developed in the primary grades.   Lack of fluency with the basic facts contributes to a higher rate of errors in computation, inhibits performance on problem-solving tasks, and contributes to math anxiety and avoidance.  Fluency with these facts represents the culmination of nearly three years’ worth of instruction helping students develop their number sense and strategies for adding/subtracting  within 20.

Another activity sent home was an exercise in open number line 2-digit addition problems.  This was also started in class and needs to be completed for homework.  If your child completed both of these assignments in class this week they were not sent home, in that case your child has a game called How Many to 100? This sheet works on adding 2-digit numbers using an open number line as a tool.
